Supporting shipping
Besides working with international organisations, bundling efforts with partners, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) supports the shipping industry through its publications, guidance, and software tools.
The Chamber acts as a coordinator ensuring that best practice is shared and industry wide responses to issues such as COVID-19 are effective.
The production and revision of maritime best practice publications is one of the most important tasks that ICS undertakes on behalf of the shipping industry. The industry best practice guidance produced by ICS are essential complements to international regulation and are recommended reading by companies and seafarers involved in maritime operations.
ICS introduced the watchkeeper software, which enables the industry to monitor seafarers’ work and rest hours in compliance with the STCW and the International Labour Organization Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).
To help grow new talent, ICS supports the World Maritime University and provides an ambassadorial function for the industry.
How we support shipping
ICS supports shipping through providing companies with its Watchkeeper software, publishing guidelines and supporting maritime education at the Word Maritime University. Especially during the COVID pandemic, ICS is working hard to support our members and the wider shipping community to provide guidance, recommendations and information for shipowners, seafarers and governments.
